The territory of the South Tyrol is predominantly mountainous. The land, from the north, is mainly limestone, becoming porfirici further south and granite arriving in the Trentino region. The region is crossed vertically by the River Adige that depending on the conformation of the shore, the terrain differs with carbonate to the left of river, crystal, granite and basalt to the right. In Alto Adige, the climate is typically alpine with a range of temperatures. The South Tyrolean wine production is mainly characterized by red wines, the main wine-growing areas are: Valdadige from Merano to Salorno with pinot blanc, pinot grigio and schiava ; theValle Inarco from Bressanone to Bolzano with kerner, silvaner and veltriner; and the average low Valle Venosta with kerner, and müller thurgau. Other grapes which are very important for South Tyrol are the red Lagrein cultivated mainly in the area arounchardonnayd Bolzano, and traminer aromatico or gewürztraminer that owes its origins to the village of Termeno.
