The Valle d'Aosta is the smallest region of Italy, being mountainous, it has a decidedly alpine climate. Wine production is mainly concentrated along the valley of the Dora Baltea. The mountainous terrain of this area requiresfarming on terraces. Most wine produced in Valle d'Aosta are rare, sought after and consumed in the region.
